Happy Friday everyone! I hope you all had a great week! I am soooooooo looking forward to this weekend! We are supposed to have 70 degrees around here! That means we can finally get outside and enjoy some quality family time hiking in one of our favorite nearby state parks.
Today was my second
time attempt at yoga! It was the same 90 minute P90X (I keep wanting to call it PX 90….don’t know why….whatever!) one I tried for the first time a couple of weeks ago with my friend, Mary Anne. I really do enjoy it and want to make it a part of my regular workouts. But, I’ll tell you, some of those poses are brutal! One thing I have never been is super flexible; flexible enough, but not enough for P90X! All in due time…………..
First things first. I needed a yoga mat. I was in Ross the other day with Courtney and I just so happened to stumble upon a bin of yoga mats! Total jackpot! I got a Bally Total Fitness brand on clearance for only $6.99! I used it for the first time today. It’s very cushy….and pink!
This past week, I also realized I needed new boxing gloves. I’ve been using the same ones for over a year ,a few times a week, and they are starting to offend others. You know, they stink. If you can only imaging what a year’s worth of dried up sweat smells like. No, don’t do that. Anyway…………after looking through the Title boxing catalog, I picked these:
I know, pink. Again! My old gloves are pink too. Hey, you gotta let people know that kickboxing ain’t just a man’s sport! We ladies have our place in there too, and what better way to show that off than to throw a jab in some guys face with your girly pink glove! I’m kidding……sort of!
Tomorrow morning is going to be exciting! The next class of Junior black belts at our karate school that will be graduating to first degree black belt have their first of two grueling tests. It’s exciting for me and Courtney because we are going to be doing it right along with them. Since my test is actually not until the fall, I wanted to do a “dry run” ,so to speak, and see, well, feel what it’s all about. I’ve watched Courtney go through it……twice, once when she first earned her black belt and the second time when she got the one with her name and rank embroidered on it.
The test consists of a 2 mile run, line drills (karate techniques), katas (forms that simulate a fight), sparring, blocks and counters, and a KILLER workout. The whole thing lasts about 2 and a half hours. Three weeks later, you do it all over again. Then (if you pass!) you’ll be awarded your black belt. Fun, right? Maybe I’m crazy, but I can’t wait! If I’m crazy, Courtney is crazier! She would do it every day if she could! We’ll also be there to encourage and support our karate family! Wish us luck!!!
What are your plans this weekend? I hope you all have a great one!
